Nhà văn Nguyễn Kiên sinh 1935, tên thật là Nguyễn Quang Hưởng. Quê gốc : xã Vạn Phúc, thị xã Hà Đông, tính Hà Tây. Ông là hội viên Hội nhà văn Việt Nam. Sớm giác  ngộ cách mạng, nhà văn Nguyễn Kiên  tham gia kháng chiến chống Pháp, là  đội viên trong ban tuyên truyền xung phong của Tổng bộ Việt Minh từ năm 1947. Ông hoạt động liên tục từ kháng chiến chống Pháp, chống Mỹ, đến những ngày hòa bình, từng là giáo viên, cán bộ đoàn thanh niên, biên tập viên xuất bản và tạp chí.

Nguyễn Duy tên thật là Nguyễn Duy Nhuệ (sinh ngày 07/12/1948) tại xã Đông Vệ, huyện Đông Sơn, tỉnh Thanh Hóa (nay thuộc phường Đông Vệ, thành phố Thanh Hóa). Năm 1965 ông làm tiểu đội trưởng của tiểu đội dân quân trực chiến tại khu vực Cầu Hàm Rồng. Đây được biết đến làm một trong những điểm đánh phá ác liệt nhất của không quân Mỹ trong những năm chiến tranh tại khu vực Thanh Hóa của Việt Nam.

Nhà văn Mạc Phi tên thật là Lưu Huy Hòa, sinh ngày 18.8.1928 tại huyện Mông Tự, Vân Nam (Trung Quốc). Quê gốc: xã Phú Thượng, huyện Từ Liêm (nay là phường Phú Thượng, quận Tây Hồ), Hà Nội. Ông bắt đầu tham gia hoạt động cách mạng từ 1946. Lúc đầu làm công nhân, sau đó là biên tập viên báo Lao động. Cuối 1947, làm Thư ký công đoàn tỉnh Tuyên Quang. Năm 1948 làm tuyên huấn Ty công an Bắc Ninh. 1950 về công tác tại Hội văn nghệ Việt Nam.
