This new special anniversary edition of INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION: A READER, celebrates 40 years of publication. In compiling this Fortieth Anniversary Edition, the editors reviewed more than 600 articles from 13 previous editions and selected essays that educators, both in the United States and abroad, considered as the foundation for teaching and researching cross-cultural communication.
These essays also illustrate the development and direction of the field since the early 1970s. This publication provides a series of essays that help students gain an appreciation and understanding of communication between students. culture. The material is presented in a context that assists students in understanding and then applying course concepts to their lives.
These core readings also demonstrate the historical development and philosophical evolution of the field. As with previous editions, Reader continues to convey the idea that successful communication between cultures is an issue of the highest importance in this interconnected, globalized world. The concluding chapter, “New Perspectives: Prospects for the Future,” includes five new essays by leading scholars on intercultural communication. These original works provide insight into new directions for cross-cultural communication in the decades to come.
