Well Read 1 is the first book in a four-level series that develops students' reading skills and vocabulary strategies, preparing them for success in the classroom as critical thinkers. Each chapter features: Compelling perspectives related to the content areas, such as Technology in Movies, The Culture of Music, Business Etiquette, and Ethics in Education, inspiring active participation and engagement in the material. Authentic texts from a variety of genres, such as online, magazine, newspaper, textbook, journal articles, and interviews, as well as graphical representations such as charts, graphs, and timelines. Key reading skills, including Scanning; Active Previewing; Identifying the Topic, Main Idea, and Supporting Details; Making Inferences; and Skimming, providing the foundation for effective, critical reading. Portable vocabulary strategies, taught with actual examples from the texts, promoting learner autonomy.
