Abstract

The goal of Community Experiences is to help adult learners, through reading and vocabulary acquisition, understand how and why to participate in their communities while they acquire English. Using this text, students will learn how to utilize community resources-- navigate the local school system, housing market, health care system, library system, etc.

Community Experiences can be used as a core text for adult classes to focus on EL civics education, as a civics-oriented supplement to a secondary ESL language arts program, or used as a supplement to an ESL/ELD basal series.
